Why We Exist

The Problem facing the Southeast Asian Communities

In a recent article by AAPI Data, a nationally recognized publisher of demographic data on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, found that there are nearly 1.1 million Southeast Asian Americans who have lower income and larger poverty rates compared to the national average. Additionally, Southeast Asians have lower rates of graduation across the board compared to the national and East Asian counterparts.

So why does this all matter? If this continues to happen, the Southeast Asian communities will continue to lag and fall behind- and will suffer more due to increased poverty rates and lower graduation rates.

How We Are Going to Make a Difference

Although there are many ways in which organizations are addressing this issue, Our Scholarship Inc.’s approach is to increase access to higher education by fundraising and providing scholarships to Southeast Asian students in Wisconsin. Doing so, will inspire and motivate students to pursue higher education and in turn, achieve their educational goals. Through giving, we will grow a strong, collaborative Southeast Asian community of role models and leaders that empowers all communities. Thus, creating a continuous cycle that nourishes and grows the community and moves it forward.
