Board of Directors

Description:

The board of directors is the governing body of a nonprofit. Individuals who sit on the board are responsible for overseeing the organization’s activities. Board members help strategize and set the organization for success. The Board meets periodically to discuss and vote on the affairs of the organization.

Responsibilities/Duties:

  • All board members are responsible and expected to help the organization in overseeing and planning the organization’s strategy and future.

  • Quarterly Meetings (More may be needed)

Board Member Service Term & Hours:

Start Term: Immediately after Approval
Term Length: 2 Year Commitment
Hours: 1-2 hours on average per month (mix of meetings/events & independent work)

  • Monthly Board Meetings

  • Professional development/training opportunities

  • OS events (Annual reception and possible smaller events with enough notice)

  • Optional team socials

Committee Member

Description:

The committee members are the heart of the organization! Committee members engage in the daily operations, from creating the scholarships, finding judges, to marketing the scholarships and planning the reception. Our Scholarship Inc., is made up of two committees!

Scholarship Cycle Committee: (3 open positions)
This committee’s role and responsibility is to create, manage, and evaluate a scholarship’s application lifecycle from creating the scholarship application to the judging process. Create general scholarship application questions and content.

Roles and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Creating scholarship applications via a platform that is accessible and intuitive for the team. Currently using Google Forms, open to other low-cost user-friendly platforms.

  • Managing and organizing scholarship applications when they are submitted, ensuring they are correct, easy to read/follow for the judging process, and complete

  • Supporting the ED and sponsors in brainstorming potential scholarship criteria based on student needs (data)

  • Creating an equitable judging process and rubric to judge scholarship applications

  • Leading the judging process which includes recruiting community judges, training judges and communicating with judges throughout the process to ensure there is clarity and confidentiality

  • Other duties that will contribute to the success of the scholarship application lifecycle

Events and Marketing Committee: (2 open positions)

This committee’s role and responsibility is to plan, execute, market and evaluate our organization’s events.

Roles and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Designing event experiences and holding team accountable to execute the vision and goals of the event (Annual reception and potential smaller events/programming virtually or in person)

  • Creating flyers, brochures and any other marketing materials to promote our organization and our events

  • Managing our social media accounts and consistently building awareness and understanding of our organization and other relevant topics to the greater community

    Other duties that will contribute to the success of our events

Start Term: November 2023
End Term: July 2024
Hours: 2-4 hours on average per month (mix of meetings/events & independent work)

  • Weekly or bi-weekly committee meetings

  • Professional development/training opportunities

  • OS events (Annual reception and possible smaller events with enough notice)
